Getting an inverter has become popular around the globe. Some car manufacturers even offer them as optional equipment (built in). Camper Iceland rents out inverters and there are a couple of things you need to know.

  • An inverter changes the 12V into 220V. You can imagine that inverting this amount will reflect in the electrical usage. Our first recommendation is only to use the inverter while driving.
  • Our inverters have an max. output of 300W. Please check your equipment to see if that is enough. F.e. hair dryers can be 1100W but cell phone chargers can be less the 20W. Try not to connect more then one thing at a time.
  • As described an inverter uses a lot of energy. When connected it can blow the vehicles fuse. Gas stations and garages have spare fuses and can assist in such cases.
  • We cannot guarantee any issues arising from an inverter.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a way to charge your camera, phone or laptop while traveling then the inverter works fine. Another solution would be to bring along 12V chargers for your gear.

What did people do before the inverter?

Our customers would use the 220V at camp sites and gas stations. When going to Restaurants or Public buildings they would connect the gear somewhere after asking permission of course. But then again their equipment used less energy.
